Reflections, 2017-19
HD Color Video With Sound, Mirrors
Reflections is a performance and video installation that exhumes the voice of Jesse Harris, a Black gender expansive artist interviewed by filmmaker Marlon Riggs and featured briefly in Riggs' seminal documentary Tongues Untied (1989). The project is based on my critical and creative engagements with artist and scholar Marlon Riggs' archive at Stanford University.
Performances and video installations have been presented at The 8th Floor for the Voices = Survival exhibition organized by Visual AIDS, the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics at the University of Pittsburgh, and at Brooklyn Museum in the exhibition Nobody Promised You Tomorrow.
